The Importance of Teen Discipleship
Discipleship Training: What It Is and Why It’s Necessary
Teenage boys are at a decisive point in their growth, maturity, and walk with God. By now, they have learned information about the world around them from teachers, parents, and peers. They have been influenced by books, music, movies, and TV shows. They will decide to ignore these worldviews or give in to what society tells them is appropriate.
Without a personal relationship with God and a knowledgeable foundation about their beliefs, teens are more likely to fall away from their faith. Today, the trained staff at Mid-Atlantic Teen Challenge discuss the importance of discipleship training and how your son can find comfort through relationships.
What is Discipleship?
Discipleship is biblical teaching while guiding others to live righteously. Instead of just learning about God, it’s important for your teen to develop a personal relationship with God through prayer and devotions. A major part of discipleship is the great commission, found in Matthew 28, where Jesus commands his followers to ‘go and make disciples of all nations.’ At Mid-Atlantic Teen Challenge
, we practice this Christian principle by emphasizing ministry and evangelism for boys ages 12-17.
Why Discipleship Training?
We all have a need to feel accepted, treasured, and valued for who we are, not based on our accomplishments or performance. Teen boys, in particular, experience a lot of social, emotional, and physical challenges. Discipleship training from a trusted mentor can help your son overcome these challenges, and find a sense of purpose and identity that’s deeply rooted in the gospel. Our Mid-Atlantic Teen Challenge staff
is here to guide and encourage your son toward living with Christ-like characteristics in his daily life.
Find Comfort and Healing
Whether past or present, dealing with trauma is serious and should not be taken lightly. Teens who have experienced abuse and trauma may tend to seek an escape with drugs and alcohol. These escapes provide temporary fulfillment but ultimately lead to a path of destruction and increased loneliness. At our Christian rehab center, your teen can find comfort and healing in a supportive setting. Our students are strengthened spiritually, socially, and emotionally through relationships, and this discipleship training is included in students’ daily schedules.
